Horseback Trails Summary

As we leave the stables, we ride out into the beautiful bushveld of Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate for a safari experience unlike any other. There is no engine noise — only the rhythmic sound of horses’ hooves as we wind our way through the African bush in search of wildlife.

The estate is home to a wide variety of plains game, including giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, sable, nyala, impala, kudu, steenbok, duiker and warthog, with the occasional leopard sighting. While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, it’s the anticipation of what may be waiting around the next corner that makes every ride unique.

Our trails follow scenic riverine routes and pass two dams (the second dam can only be reached on the 2-hour trail) where animals and birdlife are often seen gathering to drink. Whether you are a passionate bird watcher, wildlife enthusiast, or simply enjoy being in the saddle, a horseback safari offers a peaceful and authentic way to experience the bush in its most natural form.

We offer both 1-hour and 2-hour trail options and cater for intermediate to advanced riders. Beginner riders can be accommodated by prior arrangement.

For guests who would simply like the opportunity to sit on a horse and capture a few special photographs, we also offer our popular Insta Experience.
