Last year when I was looking for an adventure I stumbled upon the Thomson family and African Dream Horse Safari!
I decided to go out to Africa and see if I could learn to ride – just for the fun of it, and I had never imagined I would meet such amazing people or feel so at home in Hoedspruit.
As a complete beginner last year Traci wasso patient in teaching me the basics of riding that I have become completely hooked and for anyone looking to learn how to ride, this is an amazing place to start!
The opportunity to live in the bush, and bump into anything from Elephants, Rhinos to Buffalo on your way down to breakfast, and hear the lions roaring all around you at night, is completely mind blowing. I, for one, could also never get tired of listening to Glen’s knowledge of the bush and the way in which he brings every detail, from the smallest insect, to the biggest elephant to life.
Coming back this year was just like going back to see old friends, and was even more of an adventure than last time. Somehow in between riding in the mornings and exploring the bush in the afternoon, we found time to sleep on top of the mountains, go swimming in waterfalls, zip wire across valleys, fish in local dams, shoot at a local farm, party at Safari night club and explore the Kruger. I hardly had time to draw breath.
Above all, it is the people that make the place and the generosity and spirit in the way that Traci and Glen live their lives is nothing short of an inspiration, which I can only try and take back with me to England. Shannon has also transformed over the last year into a brilliant tour guide and I have made lifelong friendships out there (you know who you are) which I know will keep me coming back to Africa and pushing my boundaries in the way I try to live my life forever.
Thank you to everyone at African Dream…until next time!
