As we leave the stables, we enter the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate for a safari like no other. There is no loud sound of an engine, only the clip clops of the horse’s hooves; there is no ordinary straight road, but the fun of winding route on the game paths; there is nothing else but the tranquility of the surrounding bush. As we walk along, the impalas and warthogs simply carry on with their usual activity; may it be feeding on the vegetation, grooming one another or even marking their territories? They are completely relaxed and so are the horses.
The estate is home to giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, nyala, impala, kudu, steenbok, duiker, warthog and leopard to name a few, the chances of seeing all of these can never be guaranteed but the anticipation of what’s around the next corner, is what makes the bush so exciting.
The trail follows a riverine course, which contains two dams, where one often finds various species of game coming down for a thirst quenching drink. Whether you’re a bird watcher, animal lover or just here for the ride, a horse back trail is the perfect way to experience the bush in its most natural form. It is always a special experience to have a close encounter with any of the wildlife species that are found in the area.
Trail rides are offered to our students as part of the student program, but we also offer horseback safari trail rides through the bush for those visiting the area and wishing to experience the freedom of a riding safari!
